Singapore, 6 May 2026 – In a contributed piece for HoneyKids, Nurul Rasheed, Director at APRW, reflects on Mother’s Day and the complicated feelings she once felt around the occasion. The piece also reflects on her journey through loss, healing and motherhood following the birth of her rainbow baby in February this year.
Nurul candidly shared the complex emotions she felt during her pregnancy, especially after losing her firstborn, Emir Mateen at 25 weeks. Balancing both joy and fear, Nurul describes a new chapter in her life when she found out she was expecting a baby girl, her daughter, Emira Iman. Called “rainbow babies”, they are babies born after loss. Nurul acknowledges that it is a beautiful but complicated term, as rainbows don’t erase storms but exist because of them.
Nurul also expressed her gratitude for the village that supported her, and those who have honoured both Emir and Emira, embracing the coexistance of remembrance and celebration.
This year, Mother’s Day carried a different meaning as she celebrated motherhood in a visible and tangible way. Nurul’s story is a powerful reminder that grief and joy can exist side by side, and that love can grow stronger through both loss and hope.
