APRW Director Anu Gupta on the Responsible Evolution of Indonesia’s Tech Ecosystem

Singapore, 27 November 2025 – The Indonesian startup sector is undergoing a crucial period of recalibration, moving toward a greater focus on sustainability, governance, and trust, according to a recent analysis by Marketing-Interactive. Following a wave of high-profile failures and scandals that exposed weaknesses in fundamentals and over-inflated valuations, industry leaders are now urging a return to discipline, transparency, and consistent value creation.

The article, which featured insights from the Tech in Asia Conference, highlighted that the current crisis is a “fundamentals problem,” not simply a funding shortage, requiring a new mindset from founders and investors.

APRW’s Director, Anu Gupta, provided a key perspective on this transformation. After nearly a decade of working closely with tech founders, observed a meaningful shift in the entrepreneurial approach. She noted that entrepreneurs are becoming more grounded, prioritising sustainable growth, regional expansion, and actively working to rebuild trust with both users and investors.

Commenting on the outlook for the region, Ms. Gupta stated, “Despite recent headwinds, Indonesia remains one of the most promising tech markets in the region… What’s changing now is the approach to growth: it is becoming more responsible, deliberate, and focused on long-term value creation. This evolution marks an important step forward—one that could define the next chapter of Indonesia’s tech ecosystem.”

This transition is viewed as a positive and necessary filter for the market, ultimately setting the stage for more resilient companies to emerge in one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic digital economies.
