Singapore, 12 December 2025 – In a contributed piece for Tabla!, APRW Director Anu Gupta traces her personal and professional journey across cultures and continents – told through the simple, unifying ritual of coffee. Titled “My Life in Two Mugs,” the piece draws from her experiences living and working across India, Dubai, Singapore and Indonesia, using everyday coffee rituals to reflect how place, culture and time shape identity.
The piece begins with the familiar scent of Indian filter coffee in childhood and transitions through the vibrant landscape of Dubai, the various coffee rituals of Singapore, and the diverse bean-cultures of Indonesia – each cup embodying a chapter of adaptation, connection, and discovery. Today, Anu brews her filter coffee using Indonesian beans, which she brings back to India to share with family — a small but meaningful ritual that captures how her tastes, much like her worldview, have been shaped by movement and exposure to different cultures. Through coffee, Anu reflects on how her preferences have shifted with experience, mirroring her own journey of balancing two identities, multiple homes, and a lifetime of movement.
